Litra Campaign Photography

Finding clients that trust your vision has to be my absolute favorite. It also seems to be when I produce my most creative and successful work. Below I have compiled a series of photos featuring a cross-section of several different campaign concepts Litra gave me the green light to promote their new product line.⠀

The goal of this location and scenario was to appeal to professional sports / active lifestyle photographers who need powerful and durable lighting to complement their pro lighting gear without the bulky size to weigh them down. This scene features athlete @onedopevegan_ using battle ropes with zip-tied blue LED rope lights attached to the battle ropes. One LitraPro with a red filter was used to backlight the athlete, and 3 LitraTorch 2.0 lights with red filters were used to provide accent lighting throughout the scene. Three high powered strobes were used to light the athlete and stop the action, two exposed bulbs on the left and right for hard accent lighting, and one softbox strobe overhead to fill.

Nike Basketball Shoe Photography Litra

Taking product photography out of the studio is always fun. The objective of this location and scenario for @LitraGear was to appeal to commercial/advertising photographers. The concept was to create a hero image for a hypothetical shoe launch utilizing the Litra Pro as my primary lighting. Two Litras were used to light the product, and through the use of a four-second exposure, I was able to capture the ambient light from the San Diego skyline in the background. A yellow filter was used on the Litras. In post when I color corrected the white balance, I was able to shift the city lights to blue while properly balancing the color of the shoes.

If you can't find a fence with a great view of the city, bring the fence to the city! Here you see the BTS of the set-up and @iamdalerehberg standing in for me as I captured the scene for Litra.

Being a commercial/advertising photographer, I don't typically shoot weddings or engagement sessions, however, for Litra, I knew it was an important category of consumers to target for their new campaign given the great features of their lights. The shooting style was more focused on traditional lighting techniques for the couple (two LitraPros with the softbox accessory) and four blue gelled LitraTorches to create interest in the background.

One massive benefit to the Litra lights being continuous vs. flash is your ability to see how the light is falling on the subjects as you compose the scene. In this case, we used one LitraPro on a small tripod as our rim lighting in the background and one LitraPro with the softbox accessory as our key light. It was just out of the shot, camera left at 45 degrees facing down onto the faces of the subjects. We dialed up the warmth of the color temperature on the LitraPro to create a comfortable and almost inviting feeling to the scene.

Balboa Tree without Litra DSC02503.jpg

After doing some initial research into locations for the Litra campaign targeting wedding photographers, I came across this tree at Balboa Park in San Diego. The roots of this tree were so massive and unique, I just had to incorporate it into the shot list. I feel that finding interesting patterns in nature like this typically turn into photos that resonate with the viewer. Another benefit is having so much white space around the main subjects also makes for a great hero image on a website allowing room for headline copy.

My favorite thing about being a commercial photographer would be the variety of subjects you get to shoot. Working with Litra was the most shining example of this fact. On the same night, I would go from shooting product photography in my studio to skate action at the Prince Oceanside skatepark. The final three posts I have from the Litra series feature a few of my favorite skate shots from the campaign.⠀

Campaign Objective: Showcase how Action Sports athletes and enthusiasts could use the Litra lights for photography and videography.

I didn't know who Logan Frank @logofrank was before the night of this shot. By the time it was over, I was convinced this kid has serious skills. He stepped up for us that night and threw down some amazing tricks. I had three LitraPro's backlighting the bowl and to stop the action two powerful strobes aimed towards Logan at 45 degrees off camera left and right. ⠀
